I made
crazy-quilt borders for Yaffa block covers. Fabric
scraps are sewn together just as they come out of
the bin, cut to size, and joined to the right
side of the unhemmed tops of otherwise hemmed strips
of white cloth. The bottoms of the borders are sewn
to the white fabric. Both ends are left open. The
borders then serve as rod casings. The rods are
wooden dowels with 0-hooks at the ends. Colorful
pipe cleaners are used to attach the dowels to the
blocks. Now my quilting studio has a much cleaner
look.

This is a
quilted volkswagen pillow I made from a printed
fabric panel and backed with coordinated fabric. The
child's name and age are embroidered on the front,
along with a couple of pre-programmed volkswagens
and a message from grandma and papa. A fabric casing
made
in the same shape was filled with down to stuff the
pillow. Thanks to the back placket with velcro
fastening, the cover will come off for washing. It
makes a great nap pillow.

A simple knit
top was purchased. I then embroidered horses and the
words "my friends" on a piece of "horse" theme
fabric. The fabric was cut and sewn on the
blouse for a pocket. A skirt made to fit a large
wobble-head dog (here, pinned to the shirt) matches
the pocket. It goes in the pocket. What a fun
"unbirthday" gift!
